Foreglow/Charged after a trial

THE SURPRISE CHARGE

You cancelled. It charged you anyway.

This is the single most common complaint in the manifestation app category, and it is not mostly about the money. It is about being told one thing and billed another.

"Be aware of these scammers. I singed up for a 3 day free trial and was immediately charged for a 12 month subscription. Apple is refusing to refund."

114 LOW-STAR REVIEWS ABOUT A TRIAL CHARGE

across 12 of the 18 apps read

Complaints about cancelling a subscription appeared in 166 low-star reviews spanning 14 apps — the widest-spread complaint of any we found. Counts measure theme prominence in a sample of public reviews, not how often any app actually bills someone wrongly.

How the pattern works

Almost none of these reviews describe outright theft. They describe a sequence that is technically accurate and practically misleading, and it repeats with remarkable consistency across apps:

An intake flow asks intimate questions first — your goals, your fears, the life you want. A price appears only after you have told it those things. The trial length is displayed prominently and the renewal price is displayed quietly. The renewal lands on the last day of the trial rather than after it. And cancelling inside the app does not cancel the subscription, because the subscription was never held by the app.

"I tried to unscribe after a day and a half because the trial period was for two days. I was charged anyway even though I sent a message in the app that I wanted to unscribe. I reported this to my bank today 1/9/2025."

That last detail is the one that costs people money. Messaging an app's support, deleting the app, or turning off its notifications does nothing to a subscription. The subscription lives with Apple or Google, and only they can stop it.

"I'm confused. It clearly said free and suddenly I'm having to agree to a free trial terms and after that will be charged. Very misleading and sad when it is supposed to be a app that creates positivity. Deleted"

How do I actually cancel an app subscription?

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions. Every active subscription is listed there with its renewal date and price. Cancel the one you want and it stops at the end of the current period. This takes about fifteen seconds and does not involve the app at all.

On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Deleting an app on either platform does not cancel anything — this is the mistake behind a large share of the reviews on this page.

Can I get a refund for a charge I did not expect?

Usually you ask the store, not the developer, because the store took the payment. For Apple, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the charge and choose the option that fits. For Google, use the Play Store order history. Say plainly what you believed you were agreeing to and when you tried to cancel.

Refunds are decided by Apple or Google and are not guaranteed — several reviews on this page describe being refused. A developer can sometimes support your case, but cannot issue the refund themselves.

How do I avoid this happening again?

Before you enter a card, find the renewal price and the renewal date, not just the trial length. If an app will not show you a price until after it has asked about your life, treat that ordering as the product decision it is. After subscribing to anything, open your Subscriptions list and read what it now says — that list is the truth, and the app's own screens are not.

If you want the arithmetic on what a weekly plan actually costs over a year, the subscription calculator does it for you.

What does Foreglow charge, and when?

The monthly plan is $9.99 and has no trial at all, so there is no trial to be surprised by. The yearly plan is $49.99 and carries a 7-day introductory offer only when Apple's eligibility check says your App Store account qualifies — Apple controls that, so we cannot promise it to everyone. There is no weekly plan and none is planned.

The price is shown before the app asks you anything personal, which is the ordering the reviews on this page are complaining about. Your first note is free permanently and keeps playing whether or not you ever subscribe. Full terms are on the pricing page.

One thing we cannot do

Foreglow cannot cancel your subscription for you, and neither can any other app. Apple holds the billing relationship and never shows us your card. If something looks wrong on your Foreglow subscription, email us and we will help you work out what happened — but the cancel button that works is the one in your own Settings.

Per-app pricing and trial terms, each read from the store listing on a stated date, are on the comparison pages. The category-wide evidence is in our review analysis, and the related failure — losing what you wrote — is covered in when a journal app loses your entries.
